Repurposing Items for Organizing

Good Morning Everyone,

We all know that custom cabinets and shelves would be wonderful to organize all of our craft needs but for most of us this is not an option for our budgets.  So I like to look for things that can be repurposed or serve a dual purpose.

One suggestion I have is think hard about any item before you buy to make sure it will stand the test of time.  I can't tell you how many things I purchased thinking this is the perfect solution to my needs only to discover within 6 months that I had outgrown it or that it wasn't the best quality item.

If you are going to purchase bins or fabric colored boxes for storage stick with solid colors.  Then no matter where you move or how you choose to decorate the rest of the room the items will continue to match.

One of the things I found very useful in my craft room is my pegboard and it was so easy to make.  I purchased an old frame at an estate sale and measured the inside.  How big your pegboard is depends on the inside dimensions of your frame.  Then I visited my local Home Depot store where they cut the peg board and 1 X 1 boards to the size I needed.  No charge! Spray paint the peg board and frame the desired colors. I used an off white for the peg board and a cabernet for the frame.  After everything is dry place the peg board on the back of the frame.  Nail the 1 X 1 boards around the inside back inside edge of the frame.  This holds the peg board in place.  Buy pegs and you are in business.

Happy Organizing,
